I wrote 70% of my book in 5 months.

And then I didn’t write for the next year.

I got busy with life and my attention went elsewhere.

At some point a scary thought hit me:

My best work - ideas in drafts and notes’ never left my computer. No one ever read my work.

I needed a push.

I signed up for a retreat with Richard Branson on Necker Island, organized by @Fiona.

My goal - finish the first draft by the time I meet Richard Brandon, so I could give it to him as a gift.

So, I got myself back to writing.

Joining a writing community helped me a lot.

I wanted to finish it, whatever the cost.

I had to remind myself: "it’s okay if the first version is not perfect". Just put it out there and improve later.

It didn’t need to be perfect. It had to apply the same principles I had learned while being a founder, my first draft was going to be my MVP.

Long story short, I finished the draft on time.

And managed to bring it to Necker Island.

My takeaway here:

If your internal founder flame is not at its best, find an external motivation to get the looming fire back in you.
