One sentence tells you more than a pitch deck

Sometimes, one small sentence from a founder tells you more than the entire pitch deck.

Recently, I looked into a company that produces vegan eggs. My brothers are vegans, so I asked them to try the product.

BUT. They weren’t convinced.

They didn't like the flavor, texture, or price. Not the feedback I was going for. To this day, they don’t understand my decision.

Besides this, the company was going through a very difficult fundraising process.

The lead investor was delayed.

The round almost fell apart.

It looked like they could lose the company.

Then one of the founders said something very innocently, almost as if talking for himself: “If this company fails, we’ll just start another one about the same thing.”

And this is what I would love to see more and more from founders and why.

1️⃣ Mission-market fit.

They were committed to solving this specific problem. If the only motivation is valuation, status, or fundraising momentum, the founder usually disappears when things become painful.

2️⃣ Emotional durability

Most founders say they are resilient.
Very few reveal it naturally.

This sentence showed me they had already accepted the worst-case scenario and were still willing to continue. That is very different from blind optimism.

3️⃣ Founder-problem obsession

The round could fail.
The product could change.

But the entrepreneurial spirit would still remain intact. That really turned me on.

A great pitch can create interest. But a founder’s relationship with the problem and his own personal mission is something much more special. And sometimes one honest sentence does more than 30 polished slides.
