Last week, I attended Enzo Ventures’s annual meeting.

Over 100 founders and LPs gathered together.
To exchange ideas and build deeper connections.

But for me, there was more...

I met the talented artist Martin Lagares working on a sculpture.
The portrait of an entrepreneur.

Seeing other of his flamenco dancer sculptures around us in the garden and an emerging figure with a hand in front of a face I assumed he was working on a ballerina.

I approached Martin and asked him about it. He said he had discarded his original idea and was now creating an entrepreneur, with his hand looking forward, to the future. As entrepreneurs do.

This is how I found myself drawn into his creative process.
And the meaning behind his work.

As I spoke more with the artist.
I felt deeply connected to his sensitivity and authenticity.

The statue was soon after auctioned and part of the proceeds went to a foundation that supports amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease patients.

When I went to the event, I had no intention of purchasing a statue, or anything else for that matter. I had never even participated in an auction before.

But I did participate in the auction and won it!

I'm glad auctioning is not a professional sport because it seems like Felipe Alayeto, a collector with already 6 of Martin's sculptures, had been paying attention and sensed I was having a moment so he "let me win".

My takeaways?

→ Stay open to new experiences.
→ It's magical where they might lead.
→ You never know who's looking.
→ Unbeknownst to you, someone might be seeing you deeply and because of this put your own interests above their's .

The clay entrepreneur will soon sit in my living room, as a reminder that life is full of surprises.
That art can create magic.

...and that artists and entrepreneurs share a part of the same heart.
