Faked out by Fabio

This is how I got scammed by Fabio the Italian.

Let's talk about a tough lesson learned.

At Plushkies, we thought we'd hit the jackpot when our biggest order ever came from Fabio, an Italian toy store owner.

The same name, just like our flagship plush toy!

That's where the dream turned into a nightmare.

We shipped the order, but... Fabio never paid.

Emails and calls went unanswered.

We tried everything.

An email from our lawyers.

Involving the US Embassy.

...nothing worked.

In fact, I’m still waiting for his check.

So, I advise you not to rely on a customer’s good intentions, no matter how good the situation looks.

Have payment terms. Request deposits upfront.

Don’t ship a product before the customer pays the order.

Sounds obvious now.

But when you are excited and unknown you want to make it as easy as possible for others to do business with you, because your company/product is unproven.

When nobody knows you others have the upper hand, they are the ones doing you a "favor" and you mights get the worst terms possible.
