3 lessons I learned from launching my company

Plushkies taught me three expensive lessons.

1. Don’t rush without a strong foundation.

“Move fast and break things” sounds exciting.

Until you realize that hardware is not software.
Until you realize that you are in a maze with no exit.

What if you think lean?

Refine your processes.
Eliminate waste.
Make sure each step counts.

2. Let customers shape your direction.

We were obsessed with our product.

We never found out who our most important audience was.

Don’t repeat my mistake.

Ask questions.

Seek your customer’s pain points.
Let their feedback guide your next steps.

3. Every assumption is an experiment

We built Plushkies based on what we thought customers wanted.
Instead of guessing what might work, test it.

Gather data.
Measure results.

Adapt your approach.

The full story about starting, failing, and learning from my first company, Plushkies, can be found in my book - Crash Course, available on Amazon.
