Reviewing pitch decks is boring.
Reviewing them feels like sniffing perfumes.
Eventually, my eyes crossed each other, and they all smelled the same to me.
I recently had dinner with a startup consultant who specializes in fundraising. She handed me a pitch deck from a crypto company and wanted my honest feedback.
Here are my top 3 takeaways from looking 10 minutes into a 32-slide deck.
1. Put the solution front and center
This deck buried its solution on page 16. Don’t make your audience dig for the gold!
And more importantly, don’t test the patience of someone who doesn't know you, and be clear about your solution.
2. Bitcoin returns are the benchmark
If you are building something more complex than Bitcoin, it better have better returns; otherwise, what’s the point?
Buying and holding Bitcoin is relatively simple- and so far profitable. Building companiesis not so easy.
More complex than Bitcoin and lower expected ROI? No interest.
3. Show traction
Good ideas don’t matter without proof.
What have you achieved so far is the best “expectation generator.”
Traction = trust.
Let’s make your pitch one that doesn’t get lost in the “smell of perfume.”
